LAUREL JACOBSON
Laurel's unique glass art blends a variety of techniques with a wealth of themes. It's a cross between sculpture, photography and painting. Most are meant to be freestanding, bringing the mystery of light and dimension into the pieces. The wall works employ the ancient use of gold and silver leafing upon glass creating vibrancy and luminosity. First she transfers a photo repeatedly onto multiple pieces of glass often creating a 3D effect, Laurel sometimes uses up to 8 pieces of glass giving the work a thickness, a body that holds itself into the glass. Then the glass pains are painted and installed into a freestanding metal or wood frame creating a sculptural piece that changes with varying natural light, electric lights or candles.
